Tobe Hooper followed up THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) with this film which features an absolutely nutty Neville Brand using a scythe and his pet crocodile to do in the guests at his hotel. I actually think that this is a slightly better film than CHAINSAW but it was poorly distributed and rarely seen for many years.

War hero and all-around badass intellectual Neville Brand and a very young Robert Englund, (as Buck - who's "rarin' to f__k.") contend for the title of Hugest West Texas Cretin for 1977. It's fundamentalist psycho vs. moronic hedonist in the battle to decide which aspect of small-town America is the worst. Though obviously studio-bound, this really shows what Hooper can do on a budget - like his more recent effort, "Toolbox Murders". Why do they let lesser talents remake Romero and Hooper while the old masters are still with us and working on limited funds?

A boring pile of trash, so far Tobe Hooper has only made two movie I have liked and this is not one of them. Not even Robert Englund trying to hit girls backdoor saved this movie.

Damn, that guy was Robert Englund! Ha! :D

Hooper's film, despite its apparent focus on zoology, is really an experiment in baroque Texpressionism, dominated by concerns of an anthropological, ethnographic nature.
