Employment and unemployment, immigration, and assimilation in Sweden. Punctures the American fantasy about the easy life on the dole in Europe. Nermina Lukac delivers a great performance.

A film where we follow a young East European immigrant working at a food factory in Sweden. It got a great vibe and it feels very believeable, almost like a documentary at times. Well acted, well paced and it stays interesting. It's not especially original and I feel I have seen this before - the everyday struggle and the culture clashes. All right sub-plots and you do feel with the lead that does her job very well. So, it has the authenticity tory, the characters and a relevant setting. But it's get's a tiny bit tiring after a while. 6.5 out of 10 fire extinguishers.

Eat Sleep Die features a topic that's overlooked by mostly everybody: the problems of getting job and the horrible feeling of being laid off of a job because of union issues. The film tells the story of two Arabic immigrants that have been living in Sweden for more than 20 years, a father and his daughter. Besides telling a whole new aspect of the life in Sweden, we get to see a glimpse of the daily routine of the european lower class. And something quite important: the sacrifices they have to make to keep their jobs, which you can lose any day when your stay depends on the union. A slow but realistic and original film.

There are not a lot of films made about average people leading average lives, and maybe that is what makes Eat Sleep Die so refreshing.

Eat and sleep and die; is that the fate of the working class? Work isn't and it was quite a while, since we had a Swedish film made in this way about the subject. It's refreshing. These kinds of stories used to be about so called natural Swedes, but things have changed during the last 40-45 years and working class is now also rather much the same as immigrant class. There's some tremendous acting here, by people who are more or less amateurs. Nermina Lukac for example shows an extreme talent. No angel, no devil and that's not what class is about. It's about conditions, not about people being in a certain way. That's what's important here. The film tells a story, yes, but there's no doubt about director Gabriela Pichler's real mission. Like it or not, according to your political views, but refreshing it is.
