Duets (2000)

Duets is a road-trip comedy which revolves around the little known world of karaoke and the whimsical characters who inhabit it. All roads lead to Omaha, site of a national karaoke competition where this motley group of singers and stars come together for a blow-out sing-off.

Doggone it, I liked this movie. Okay, Hewie Lewis was a bit stiff, but the other actors were fabulous, especially Paul Giamatti, Maria Bello and Andre Braugher. And, of course, any movie with Gwyneth is worth watching (yes, we are on a first-name basis).

"Duets" is a frustratingly mediocre road movie that connects three unlikely pairs of people in the much maligned phenomenon of Karaoke singing as a metaphor for "finding the meaning of life" by sharing their interpretations of pop songs.

The big downside of the film is that it always feels slightly contrived.

I'm pretty much a sucker for any movie that is about music. yes even karaoke.
