Drishyam portrays a decent man pushed to the limit by corruption, and Kamat's restrained treatment turns a story ripe for melodrama into a thoughtful depiction of an honest, upstanding family forced to commit a crime in the name of truth and honor.

Although the plot is an uncredited rip-off from the Japanese novel "The Devotion of Suspect X" by Keigo Higashino, it's well-acted and contains enough drama and suspense to make it an engrossing watch and a return to the top for Mohanlal.

The first half-hour is alarmingly sloppy, but once we finally arrive at The Incident, 'Drishyam' finally becomes the tense and exceptionally well-plotted thriller that we were all expecting it to be.
