I wasn't bowled over, but I liked it. You really want this couple to succeed, and the film never lets you know ahead of time how things are going to play out. Kati Outinen has a terrific face, which seems capable of conveying anything without ever changing from its blank expression.

Maybe I would have liked this more if I wouldn't have seen "The man without a past" before. They are, both, quite similar in the development of their story. Also, the cast is almost the same. Still, this movie is quite enjoyable and funny, if you know how to deal with black humour ;)

I think this one defined Aki KaurismÃ¤ki as a director more than any other movie. Funny in that silent, awkward way we all learned to love in Aki productions. Optimistism hidden behind hardened faces. I wonder if it actually can be enjoyed as much if you have to read the subtitles. It feels as if you get more out of it if you can understand Finnish (which I do). It's a very compact movie too. It sort of stays in one place...in a good way.
