This is an excellent film. It is a contemporary tale about control and sexuality in the lives of an urban disgraced academic who moves to live with his daughter in rural South Africa. John Malkovitch finds his amoral affair with a reluctant student progresses towards nemesis as his daughter's fragile farm existence is irrevocably altered by violence from her disposessed African neighbours. The acting, scenery and plot are of a very high standard. This would only be a date movie if your date is thoughtful & perceptive but then you could find you had a lot to talk about afterwards. Highly recommended and my congratulations to all involved.

A lethal look at the after-shock of apartheid. Tough to watch but bearing a powerful message.

"correct adaptation of an incorrect book", and that's about it. difficult in some ways to watch, but also made in a form that force you to watch it. makes you think, but because of the theme of the book, not the movie itself. in a picture, something is missing, but also, something is still bringing to watchers mind into the problem. i think could have been even more provoking, more brutal and literal in one way, but in the other - could've shown the hidden, unseen areas- it doean't and is not strong as it could be.

As disturbing, complex and uneasiness-oozing as the original novel by Coetzee. John Malkovich also just acts brilliantly.

one word, great! John Malkovich is excellent in acting of coz. how far do you think disgrace personally matters???? racial, sexist matters.... anyways, just excellent. Portrayal of characters is very fine. philosophical and socially political. Defo leads you to buy and read the book and see the angle shift there.
