Detective Dee And The Mystery Of The Phantom Flame is a thriller, an action movie, an effects-heavy mythical adventure and even a little bit of a love story. In short, it's every sort of film director Tsui Hark has made in the past all rolled into one.

Not as epic a kung fu as others (Crouching Tiger, Hero, Ip Man, Red Cliff), but a thoroughly enjoyable film if you're a fan of the genre. If you aren't, start with Hero and work your way here, although this has a much more Western feel akin to Sherlock Holmes.
