This film was followed by four sequels, it was the inspiration for the "The Brave One", and was the first of the vigilante genre. At the time of this film's release it featured themes that had already been seen by movie goers at the time, but in a more controversial way. The rape scene was very graphic for that time period and in someways, still is today. It is also noteworthy, that this is one of, if not the first movies to drop a "C" bomb. I like how all of the bad guys are the same. Like, why do they all jump around like they belong to the ministry of silly walks? I'm not sure why that is, but as the film series progressed the bad guys did get a little more realistic.

Stylish and gritty 70's revenge thriller with Charles Bronson who plays a man who turns vigilante after the police fail to capture the muggers that killed his wife and rape his daughter. Although the plot is similar to revenge themed action films that you get today, the grimy look of the film makes it more believable, and Bronson, although a big man that made a career out of action films, makes a believable performance of a ordinary man that feels that he needs to do something about the crime in the city that he lives in.

Fucking Classic. This is a great Vigilante movie. Unfortunately the sequels moved in a steep downward spiral. Jeff Goldblum rapes a woman's face in this. Seriously. 'The Brave One' mostly rips this movie off. A lot. And it doesn't work.

Charles Bronson has always been one of my favorite actors and when I first saw this as a kid I wanted to roam the NYC ghettos and put certain people out of their misery. An all time classic!!
