Sam Neill is rather good as a Dean who recites memories of a past life as a dog in this odd but asethetically charming period piece. If you can get past Peter O'Toole pulling faces.

A must see movie if you appreciate the off-beat. Why Miramax didn't release it to "art house" audiences in the U.S.A. is very strange, because it's brilliantly scripted, directed, acted, and filmed.

Wonderful film. Keen wit, great performances, and highly entertaining. Thought provoking and fun is always a great combination, refreshing too.

Definitely not for the die hard Rambo fans for sure. But, if you enjoy a bit of simple storybook charm in a film once in awhile, this is a great example of a whimsical tale of reincarnation that is nicely done and made almost believable from the excellent performances by the cast with Peter O'Toole being the absolutely perfect stuffy, purposeful antagonist. Not going to be the favorite of many but for the type of movie it was supposed to be, I loved it.
