A fascinating, very intimate portrait of the artist and filmmaker in which we hear Lynch talk through key formative moments his life in stream of consciousness fashion.

The Art Life is more concerned with the art rather than the life of Lynch, and this is the only true weakness of the doc. While informative to a certain degree, there’s always a sense that something is missing here. That there’s more to Lynch than the film cares to explore.

How did the youngster who says he came from a "super happy household" end up as a cinema prince of darkness? While one cannot promise a clear answer to that, Lynch has some good stories to tell, particularly one about seeing Dylan in concert.
