Directors David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud wade into the fray once more with their latest addition to their Heroes of Valor Collection - Danger Close. This documentary follows female freelance journalist Alex Quade, who undertakes a journey of courage and dedication. After learning about the death of Staff Sgt. Robert Pirelli, Quade dedicates herself to finding the Combat Outpost that Pirelli built, practically from scratch. The film handles this emotional content with deep seated respect and honor, balancing the tense, dark moments on the field with clips of Robert at home during Christmas, and stunning quiet moments of meditation and reflection with his family coping with their loss. Overall, this film is one of the most complex and interesting explorations into life overseas, and is a must see for anyone wishing to learn about and honor our soldier’s lives and experiences.

Military journalist Alex Quade provides her own footage in this new collaboration with the makers of the Heroes of Valor Collection. The third film in the series, Danger Close, uses Quade’s footage to recount her trip through Iraq to fulfill her promise to a fallen hero’s family that his legacy still stands. The documentary is authentic in providing footage of soldiers in training, on missions and hanging out during downtime. A moment I keep going back to is a soldier’s playful interview as they search for buried weapons caches when they are interrupted by an IED. I cannot recommend this truly human film enough.

Danger Close is an authentic and visceral military documentary film that follows Alex Quade, an accomplished female reporter, as she journeys across Iraq while joining with Special Operations Forces to tell the story of Staff Sgt. Robert Pirelli, and the legacy that he left behind. Through raw footage and unprecedented access, Alex Quade reports the heroic and brave missions that our service men and women conduct while on the front lines of battle. From nail biting search and rescue missions, to the heartwarming accounts of Pirelli's family members, this documentary is filled with inspiration and courage. I highly recommend this film to anyone in search of a new and insightful documentary to watch this year.

Danger Close provides a vivid portrait of combat and its emotional and physical aftermath. But despite its harrowing footage and moving elements, the film may feel all too familiar to viewers who have become numb in the face of seemingly countless other similar efforts.

Danger Close, the latest in the Heroes of Valor collection, follows freelance reporter Alex Quade as she tells the story of fallen Green Beret Rob Pirelli. Through all of the self-shot footage, Quade does a great job showing the authentic experiences and bravery of our troops while deployed. Out of every movie I have ever seen, this has taught me the most about what our selfless soldiers go through. Having loved this documentary, I recommend it to those who want to support and learn about what our soldiers do.
