Daffy Duck's Quackbusters (1988)

In this feature-length film combining footage from classic Warner Brothers cartoon shorts with newly animated bridging sequences, Daffy Duck, after having induced laughter in an ailing millionaire and forestalled the millionaire's death for a time (as chronicled in Daffy Dilly (1948), is the beneficiary for the deceased millionaire's assets. But the millionaire's will clearly stipulates that Daffy must use the money for the common good, by providing a service, and should Daffy think of pursuing selfish aims, the millionaire's ghost will "repossess" his millions by making them disappear from Earthly existence. Under the pretense of community service, Daffy opens an exorcism agency and employs Porky Pig, Sylvester Cat, and Bugs Bunny to track and eliminate ghosts, ghouls, and other monsters, while Daffy secretly schemes to use his learned "ghost-busting" talents to rid himself of the millionaire's nagging spirit.

Some amusing biys here and there, (Daffy Duck singing Mel Torme is great) but the animated wraparounds of the classic stuff really is weak. Not worth it.

Monsters lead such interesting lives! Best moments include Daffy wearing cake, Acme trick fangs, Porky hanging on by the chandelier, Tweety taking the Hyde formula, the cold oven and hot fridge, the tooth-lined piano, the Abominable Snowman sweating it up in warmer climates, and the tiny elephant. 'Isn't anybody going to crowd?' Spooks spooked Goblins gobbled U.F.O.s K.O.'d Aliens alienated Vampires evaporated Monsters remonstrated

I remember when this was played relatively often on HBO. It immidiately became a favorite of mine. Great melding of new sequences with classic cartoons.

Why hasn't Warner Brother been able to re capture the magic they once had back in the day. Well they did in the early 90s when they actually tried doing something instead of recycle the old stuff that the do every other time. However the good thing about them recycling the old stuff is that it did introduce me into watching the old stuff. I haven't seen this since i was a little kid, so I was easily fooled by alot of the recycling this movie did. Watching this now it is very obvious what was new and what was old. Regardless though it's still nice to revisit classics. That is why it gets a high rating.
