Cyrus cues us to expect it to go over the top, but the film never does. That may be its neatest trick

It could've easily been a ridiculous comedy, but its actually an understated light dramedy. Jonah Hill is a weird sort of demented son from hell, and its probably the best thing I've ever seen him do. I was presently surprised at how indie-quirky it was, very enjoyable.
