Cutter's Way (1981)

Alex Cutter is a boozy, belligerent and deeply cynical Vietnam veteran whose encounter with a landmine during the war has left him minus an eye, a leg and an arm. When his drifter playboy friend Richard Bone is falsely accused of murder, Cutter sets out for revenge in his own inimitable style.

jeff bridges shines as always, but it is john heard as cutter, wounded physically and emotionally, who is the real star here. the movie hurtles along at a fine pace right up to it's tragic end. a forgotten gem of a thriller and buddy movie. oscar worthy performances all around!

slow paced Drama/Thriller with great acting and simple plot. but it has the disadvantage of being kind of tedious. i kind of expected a different kind of movie. but definitively worth a watch

This is one of the best movies of all time in my opinion. So underrated. Heartbreaking with one of the very best endings ever.

Doesn't totally make sense (the ending in particular is pretty odd) but a reasonable film nonetheless. Let's face it - Jeff Bridges is watchable whatever he's doing (particularly when he's got a seedy 'tache and a cool jumper).

Cutter's Way is a movie that starts yielding up its real treasures around the third viewing, so stick with it (you'll hate the ending first time out). I've seen it perhaps 30 times – it may be my favourite American movie – and, unlike its three broken leads, I have still yet to hit bottom. For once, the word is appropriate: masterpiece.
