A handsome, ambitious film that fails to satisfy—perhaps because the director, Ivan Passer, insists on an ambiguity on the plot level that muddies and dilutes the thematic thrust.

John heard gives an unreal turn as the crippled Vietnam Veteran 'Alex Cutter'. Slow paced but Herads mesmerizing performances turns this film into a classic.

A classic counter culture novel adapted into a film that captures part of what I imagine the novel had. It wasn't bad but the direction was a bit flat and I wasn't that enamoured with one of the lead characters who was a bit hammy at times. The best thing I got out of this was that it looked like it had some influence on the Coen Brothers' The Big Lebowski.

A decent outing for Ivan Passer. Great performances from Jeff Bridges, John Heard & Lisa Eichhorn, Heard especially. He gets a BIT cartoony at times but it's something I've never seen him do. I recommend, but it's not urgent.
