Robert to the power of three: Young! Mitchum! Ryan! It's nice to see Robert Mitchum in a positive role. The anti-semitism is handled deftly, but the violent climax is at odds with an otherwise realistic picture; it's just an excuse to punish the villain.

why does this movie make all the army guys look like pussies. they are all afraid of montgommery, and most of them do nothing but whine and cry through the whole movie.

So there were two things about it I didn't like, Robert Young makes one of the worst mistakes I've ever seen a cop in a film make, and the no-doubt studio imposed final image/music. Otherwise, this film should be known more than the Best Years of Our Lives. I can't believe I've been thinking that was the best they could do for so long. Man, this movie is awesome, given its time.
