Enjoyable, different Vampire film from 1970.

Ive seen a fair amount of vampire movies that have come down the pike & mostly my enjoyment is based on the main vampire. Robert Quarry is alright but he sure as hell isn't Bela Lugosi, Christpher Lee or even Jonathan Frid from House of Dark Shadows. It's not all his fault though. The script is written in such a way that his adversaries aren't too bright. To try to trick him into revealing he's a vampire you get confrontation dialogue like 'Do you believe in werewolves?..well do you believe in vampires?'..yes? well shit then you have confirmed our suspicions! It just made me snicker more then anything else. It does have moments though like when some chick is munching on a kitten. Gruesome but made me laugh (& throw up in my mouth a little bit)

Robert Quarry stars as a transplanted European vampire taking up residence in Los Angeles circa 1970. I think that says it all right there. Check out the sequel, too.

Solid little AIP vampire pictures set in modern day Los Angeles. A young couple find themselves the guests of a Bulgarian count following the death of the young woman's mother. The counts and the mother had been involved, but after being invited back to the count's home, the film's heroine wakes up the next day feeling ill and her doctor informing her that she's suffered extreme blood loss. Hmmmm. How could that be? Overall, this film isn't as slickly made as the Hammer Horror films of this period, but it does have it's own low budget charms, primarily the Los Angeles setting, a few good visuals (particularly the count's "brides") and a fair amount of gory special effects. Hollywood veteran George Macready narrates the film's opening (his son was a producer on the film) and Michael Murphy, in an early role, also appears in the film.

kooky retelling of Dracula in the 70's not as cheesy as it should be but ok and not as bad as Dracula 72AD ( which was beyond terrible).
