Christmas in Connecticut (1945)

While recovering in a hospital, war hero Jefferson Jones grows familiar with the "Diary of a Housewife" column written by Elizabeth Lane. Jeff's nurse arranges with Elizabeth's publisher, Alexander Yardley, for Jeff to spend the holiday at Elizabeth's bucolic Connecticut farm with her husband and child. But the column is a sham, so Elizabeth and her editor, Dudley Beecham, in fear of losing their jobs, hasten to set up the single, childless and entirely nondomestic Elizabeth on a country farm.

OK this was so much fun and perfect for Christmas. I love the oldies, they have such a charm and make me want to go live inside them. The farmhouse in particular is like my dream home, so idyllic. As for the story, it's just all light hearted stuff. It's the quaint Christmassy feel that makes it such a great place to spend an hour and forty five minutes though.

Another Christmas movie. I had heard of this movie for years, but never ventured in fearing it to be a musical. After seeing it in a TCM Holiday 4-Pack with Shop Around the Corner, A Christmas Carol, and It Happened on 5th Ave. I took a chance. Not a musical, to my delight. This movie focuses on a Magazine Writer, played by Barbara Stanwyck and an injured GI. The movie is a romantic screwball comedy. It is pretty tightly paced and there is plenty of humorous situations throughout. The acting is sturdy and the characters are entertaining and work well with each other. Its S.Z. Sakall that steals the show however, his performance as Stanwyck's friend is very funny. This is an okay movie, worth watching and sometimes funny. Stanwyck in the lead leaves something to be desired. It was good but not classic.

A wonderful, light, breeezy, romantic comedy confection for the holidays. Stanwyck is great as usual and S.Z. "Cuddles" Sakall is a lot of fun as her chef friend.
