Chinese Zodiac (2012)

Asian Hawk leads a mercenary team to recover several lost artifacts from the Old Summer Palace, the bronze heads of the twelve Chinese Zodiac animals which were sacked by the French and British armies from the imperial Summer Palace in Beijing in 1860. Assisted by a Chinese student and a Parisian woman, Hawk stops at nothing to accomplish the mission.

The only thing of this film is, I salute Jackie's spirit and efforts in filming at his current age. While generally this is a popcorn flick, bombarded with the usual comedy styles of great fighting scenes, it is still unforgivable that the plot is weak and nonsense. Awful dialogues, weak scores, illogical scenes and plot setting fade the fame as well as epic of Jackie's previous films. Of course, it is just another ridiculous version of Mission Impossible that hero will not get injured easily and CZ12 fails to be any part of Indiana Jones or exciting treasure journey as in grave robbers series.

Interesting but not as fun as the other "Armour of God" movies. You can see the aging Jackie Chan struggling in this movie to keep up with his younger co-stars and at times it almost seems like his stunts are done on wire. The story is very bland and not as adventurous as it should be...this comes off more like he's a spy more than an adventurer. And that's what the Armour of God series is suppose to be about. I love watching all of Jackie Chan's movie, but some are hit and miss and this one definitely misses.

It is nice to see another Jackie Chan movie, but it was overly preachy about all the stolen artifacts stuff. It is nice to see him do some stunts though they are not as flashy as his early stuff. That is understandable since he is now 59.

Supposed to be Chan's last action film, and as swan songs go, this is not representative of his best work. Flashes of his brilliance are too few and far between, and bogged down by heavy handed messages and a dull script.
