Watched this while I was home sick, and I was deeply affected by it. Beautiful film, what a great tale about life & love, with a great cast. The characters are all living in Hong Kong around the time of it changing hands from British rule to Chinese. But it's so much more than that...

may be an enjoyable movie to foreigners, but as a local hongkie, it fails to capture the atmosphere in hk during that emotionally tumultuous period. Afterall, what does a Taiwanese director know about HK? Watch Golden Chicken 1&2, The Longest Summer by Fruit Chan, and you'll start to get a taste of life in HK

I liked the setting and the era. There are some nice pictures and moments, but the film is not really working. Jeremy Irons acts without strengt and presence, lacking clarity and focus.

sexy movie but ultimately not one of jeremy irons best. the story is a little congusing but still worth watching.
