The problem is that those pulling Child's Play's strings don't consistently commit to anything other than the gore.

While it doesn't quite reach the heights of the original, Child's Play (2019) manages to stand on it's own as a solid re-imagining.

Child's Play is an easily watchable, entertaining horror film. Chances are you are not going to be bored watching this film. The film thankfully doesn't take itself too seriously, which most of the time works in its favour. Unfortunately if you are looking for a very well made horror film you won't find it here. But thats not necessary a bad thing because this film is easily watchable and I definitely had a fun time watching it. It simply isn't trying to be something amazing it just wants you to be entertained. Some aspects of the film I really enjoyed were the performance. The protagonist Andy was portrayed very well by Gabriel Bateman and Mark Hamill once again hit it out of the park with his amazing voice acting as Chucky in this film. Surprisingly the film offered some great kills as well that I didn't see coming. This film was surprisingly quite original as well which I enjoyed. I thought this was a nice new take on the Chucky Character. Overall Child's Play is a very entertaining film with great performances, enjoyable kills and a great sense of fun throughout.

Alot better than I expected. At first glance, I thought this would be another throwaway reboot but it actually surprised me at how solid it was. Hamill is fantastic as Chucky, the kid who plays Andy and Aubrey Plaza are very good in their respective roles. It makes good use of it's R rating even though for the most part the film knows how goofy it is.

Surprisingly, refreshingly, and most assuredly, this 2019 remake of the eponymous horror classic (directed by Lars Klevberg, the filmmaker behind the deplorable horror film "Polaroid") is not only perfectly acceptable, but honestly pretty good. A revisitation of narrative material that tries neither to completely replicate nor bastardize the original story in question, "Child's Play" offers just enough of the spirit and tone of the original without slavishly adhering to the exact story beats and offering nearly as many moments of fan-service that we've seen other remakes commit to as of late. Yes, some of the puppeteering and design work is suspect, but the kills, performances, and visuals? Shockingly enjoyable. This is a tight, well-realized horror thriller with a great personality and a ton of laughs. I honestly am stunned to say that I wouldn't mind seeing another.
