Prosperous professional couple Mike and Christine are settling in for a standard evening of wine, TV and low-level marital hostility when a ring on their doorbell changes everything. Relentlessly unpleasant home invasion thriller that shies away from challenging the stereotypes that people it, pulling its punches both as social criticism and as Last House exploitation and ends up feeling like a dramatised Daily Mail headline. The low budget is used to claustrophobically stylish effect and the performances are strong, particularly Ashley Chin (though he may stand out mostly because heâ(TM)s the closest thing to a sympathetic character), but despite the scant running time (which normally I would applaud) it feels slow and never really gets started. If you like this sort of thing, itâ(TM)s worth a look, but ideally it would be screened in a double bill with the Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael, thus giving you the opportunity to avoid both films at the same time.

This is so scary, every homeowners worst nightmare. As a mother of a teenage boy it's made me quite grateful that Dylan would rather sit and watch the Hotel inspector with me than get himself involved with local Chav drug dealers. Not that there is much of that type of thing in Carrbrook.... You would hope !

The fact that this gets very tense in a couple of key scenes is not enough to make up for the rest. Boring in parts, completely idiotic and despicable characters, and an unsatisfactory ending which tries to be ambiguous but is just rubbish.
