Chasing October (2007)

"Chasing October" is a docu-comedy that chronicles one fan's crusade to take the Chicago Cubs to the World Series "by any means necessary." Director Matt Liston quits his job, gets all access to his favorite team, and rallies a city. Perhaps no other fan in the history of sports has gone to such an extreme. See Liston as he helps facilitate a trade, attempts to get a $20 million loan to help team payroll, and takes being a fan to a whole new level. This film is a hilarious must-see for all sports fans and for anyone who has ever chased a dream.

Worth seeing even if you're not a baseball fan, since Chasing October is about the ties that bind, as well as those that can break.

A great flick about what it means to be a Cubs fan. The fact that Matt Liston decided to make this film in 2003 is (unfortunately) almost too perfect. Most Cubs fans went into the season with moderate expectations, but we were all believing in October when they got SO close. It's not about curses. It's not about losers. It's about passion and believing that good things will happen to those who wait. Super cool flick for die-hard Cub fans. However, if you are truly passionate about the Cubs, heed the director's warning. Viewer discretion is advised. The 2003 post-season segment brings back lots of memories... (*Side note: Liston also worked on as production assistant for both Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has nothing to do with this movie, but makes me like him even more.)

Chasing October is not the all-encompassing document on the Cubs that I'm sure even Matt Liston would love to see someday. But it is another chapter in the book racking up more disasters than the Old Testament.
