Robert Downey Jr. is amazing in this movie! A must see for Chaplin fans.

"Syd, I love this country. I owe it everything. That's why I *can* make fun of it!"One of my favourite biopics, and an underrated film all around, it contains Downey Jr.'s best performance, an unique ensemble cast portraying some iconic figures, and an evocative and memorable John Barry score. Chaplin's life is covered very professionally, and it's such a moving and captivating story you'll watch over and over again, and never forget.

I rushed to the theatre when this came out in '92 and was impressed that it stood the test of time some 15yrs on. Absolutely brilliant performance by Downey Jr. without question, stellar direction by Sir Richard, loved the narrative flashbacks and use of Chaplin-isms to create a definitive bio-pic of one of cinema's most endearing and enigmatic artists. The supporting cast may pale in comparison to Downey Jr. but so did everyone in Charlie's life. My only criticism is that you leave the film not knowing enough about Chaplin and what made him tick, other than a fondness for underage women. I suppose that was the point so that some mystery remains. If you haven't seen this film, get thee to a blockbuster!

Robert Downey Jr. is absolutely unforgettable, a classic performance capturing the essence and creative genius of one of the most popular pop icons of the twentieth century. Kevin Kline is brilliant. A creative, charming, dazzling and incredible masterpiece of a film by Director, Sir Richard Attenborough. It's truly moving, passionate, wonderfully funny and riveting. This is how a biographical film should be. A pleasant, wonderful and magnificent gem. It's extraordinary, utterly excellent and breathtaking. One of the greatest films ever made.
