Richard, a millionaire in love with his secretary, Diane, is dispirited when his wife refuses to divorce him. Concerned that Diane will now lose interest, Richard offers her an all-expense-paid cruise to Argentina so that she can think it over. While traveling, however, Diane falls in love with fellow traveler Mike. She resolves to come clean to Richard, but upon return she becomes conflicted when she finds out he was able to get divorced after all.

There's good chemistry between Crawford and Gable in Clarence Brown's formulaic romantic melodrama, a typical MGM star vehicle during the Depression.

Chained is a nice film. It is about a mistress of one man who has a shipboard romance with another and is torn between both men. Clark Gable and Joan Crawford give great performances. The script is good but drags a little in some places. Clarence Brown did a terrific job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and romance. Chained is a must see.
