Catch Hell (2014)

Former Hollywood star Reagan Pearce is kidnapped by two men connected to his past while on location in Louisiana. When he wakes up bound and chained in a rundown shack, he soon discovers the real motives of his captors and finds himself in the middle of a twisted scheme with little chance to survive. With no rescue in sight, Reagan must use every ounce of strength he has left to break free and get his revenge.

The story allows for Ryan Phillippe to indulge in a self-deprecating brand of satire, but he can't work up enough courage to ever make his character--and, by extension, himself--the brunt of any of the film's barbs.

I actually enjoyed watching this film. Not the most complicated film, to say the least, but exciting in an awkward, exotic Louisiana way. The main reasons I was interested in the film were: filmed in Louisiana, and Ryan Phillippe. Did I mention Ryan Phillippe? I agree with tvnewsguido, "Torture Porn" is a nice way of putting it. If you like that kind of thing...

Catch Hell has physical torture and sexually explicit mind games. It has a star who seems resigned to his fate and willing to give up and savage bumpkins straight out of “Deliverance” ready to take out their hatred of Hollywood and Hollywood values on him. That description gives this simple, ferociously feral thriller more depth than it deserves.
