Castle in the Desert (1942)

Charlie Chan, with son Jimmy on a week's pass from the Army, takes up a request for help at a castle-home, miles from anywhere in the American desert south-west and inhabited by an eccentric, reclusive historian and his wife, a descendant of Lucrezia Borgia. Once there, he finds the request's legitimacy denied by all who are present, but still necessary as one houseguest has already been murdered, the other guests are at each other's throat, and the Borgia-related chatelain is suspected...

The last of the Fox Charlie Chan films and a decent farewell to the long running series it is.

Another fun Chan actioner here (can't stop saying that when I enjpy em!) Chan (with #2 son back!) goes to, yes, a castle in the desert to figure out a mystery, if there is one! of a genealogist's (!!) death. Plenty of clues and false clues and red herrings in this one. Actually more fun than usual. One of the best!

Due to the large cast of suspects, it was a little difficult to follow who was who at times. Ethel Griffies does a terrific job as a mysterious stargazer. Overall, a fun movie to watch. I recommend this film to any Charlie Chan fan or anyone who likes a good old-fashioned mystery.
