Capturing the Friedmans (2003)

An Oscar nominated documentary about a middle-class American family who is torn apart when the father Arnold and son Jesse are accused of sexually abusing numerous children. Purely the most disturbing and focusing documentary ever made. Don't watch this when you are in a happy mood.

A compelling documentary about a family torn apart by sex abuse charges. Very unique because the film had access to the home videos taken by the family as the case progressed. A++

One of the most perfect documentaries ever made. Andrew Jarecki manages to look at every side of this terrible story in a way that constantly makes you question your initial impressions.

I cried out loud at the end of this film (not only tearing, but vocal, physical shaking). It is perhaps the most unforced, perfectly woven documentary I have seen. I couldn't ask for a richer, more beautifully ambiguous story. Absolutist thinkers will have trouble with it, contextual thinkers should love it. It is told with astounding honesty by the subjects and compassion by the filmmaker.

Highly compelling look on social stigma and knee jerk law. Told wit h a very neutral point of view that doesn't try to insist on innocence or guilt.
