This would have been just another cliché movie if not for Elizabeth Taylor's terrific portrayal of Gloria. Lawrence Harvey was also phenomenal. The whole movie has a lot of heart.

Taylor's heralded performance as the archetypal hooker ('the slut of all time!') with a heart of gold is a bit overrated.

It feels like a 50's nudie, to be perfectly honest. The quality of the film is not quite great (au contraire), but, as usual, Liz lights up the screen as she enters a room. However, it's not her best performance (though she proves, once again, how fantastic she is at handling drama) but everybody knows it was a pity vote anyway (she had recently gone through surgery). I still think her first Oscar should've been for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which was her first nomination. Recommended only for Elizabeth Taylor fans, and for merely historic purposes. "Ma, face it! I was the slut of all time!"

With lines like a comedy ridiculing this genre played straight, it took an act of will to stomach this garbage, this trash, about trash. Maybe its better than I give it credit for ... but noooooo.

Engrossing drama about a part-time model/high class escort who falls for an asshole client and the platonic relationship with her best friend (this part is done especially well); wonderfully saucy dialogue and great acting from everybody EXCEPT for an awful performance by the leading man (Laurence Harvey)
