Burden of Dreams (1982)

The Amazon rain forest, 1979. The crew of Fitzcarraldo (1982), a film directed by German director Werner Herzog, soon finds itself with problems related to casting, tribal struggles and accidents, among many other setbacks; but nothing compared to dragging a huge steamboat up a mountain, while Herzog embraces the path of a certain madness to make his vision come true.

Remarkably candid behind-the-scenes documentary.

Amazing documentary about the making of Fitzcarraldo. Herzog's sheer determination, faith and vision in the face of unbelievable bad luck, mother nature, warring tribes and losing major actors to sickness and other commitments (Jason Robarbs filmed 40% of the movie before he went ill and Mick Jagger had an album to record) and of course getting attacked by bandits.

A great look into the making of such an expensive and stressful movie shoot (to say the least!)

fascinating! and even more eerily similar to Apocalypse Now. Fitzcarraldo just wouldn't have been the same if Mick Jagger was in it.

Aside "American Movie" and "Hearts of Darkness" as one of the best documentaries about filmmaking ever made. Also quite the ethnographic study.
