The film Fitzcalraldo is an interesting watch but when you view Burden of Dreams the realization of what Herzog went through to get it made, the film's impressiveness jumps tenfold. To watch this is frustrating simply because it seems like nothing will go right for the crew. Woven into this story is the trials of the natives who make up the most fascinating part of this tale. I actually think it's better than Fitzcalraldo itself.

a great look at filmmaking... consider the issues we have in human rights, poverty, etc in this world... now consider the $ in filmmaking that allows for such insanity as is exposed in this documentary! fascinating... mind-blowing. watch 'my best fiend', too...

BURDEN OF DREAMS (1982) Directed by Les Blank. Fascinating doco on the trials & tribulations that faced visionary auteur, Werner Herzog, & those who tried to help him realise his dream during the challenging ordeal of making Fitzcarraldo. Lesser men would have quickly given up. This man does not know the meaning of the words "it cannot be done." *****5 out of 5 stars*****
