Altman's loose-limbed early style is perfect for this kind of fantasia. Through an aloof camera we follow Brewster's surreal journey, and this detached observation lends a verisimilitude to impossibile things. The movie culminates in one of the most bracing "70's endings" in my experience.

This is my favorite Robert Altman movie, largely because it's totally different from his other movies with their huge ensemble casts and roaming tracking shots. This one is on a smaller scale than that. It's also really bizarre. A bizarre little gem you might say. Glad to see that it finally made it to DVD recently, even though it seems to be some weird made to order DVD-R on Amazon.

this film was just great. it takes place in houston so there are many great shots of the city as it was in the seventies. the story was very interesting too. there's a narrator like in rocky horror who explains the characters in comparison to birds. it's a bizarre tale. but worth a watch.

Murders are occurring in Houston - first the victim is defecated on by a bird and then strangled. A hotshot cop Frank Shaft (Michael Murphy) is brought in for the case who is a little unusual. A beautiful woman (Sally Kellerman) is always around the incidents. And she has a unique relationship with Brewster McCloud, a strange young man with a yearning to fly away and who lives in the Houston Astrodome. He meets Suzanne (Shelley Duvall), a free spirit who works at the Astrodome. Rene Auberjonois plays a professor who is lecturing the audience about birds and their similarities to people and gets increasingly silly as the film progresses. Completely off-the-wall bizarre with some very fun moments (a Where's Waldo-esque chase in the dome and a fairly extensive car chase). Done in typical Robert Altman style.

one of the funniest movies ive ever seen. a great watch & great directing by Altman.
