This movie is a great doco on what some people go through to survive.

A snapshot of Australia. A culturally important documentary that will probably mean more to us in decades to come. Created by the family it is documenting, there will naturally be some bias but also a depth that only insiders could bring. This is a great home movie/subculture documentary. And the decision to begin with Australia's history, I believe was an important one. It depicts hope where there could be none. Beliefs from brotherhood. And it begs the questions - What constitutes a gang? And what makes a family? Worth seeing, not to romanticise a tough life, but to understand.

Admittedly I knew very little about surf culture in Australia, so this provided a great insight into mateship, brotherhood, rivalries, terratoriality etc. I felt that the film glossed over several issues and was a tad cloying and manipulative in parts (the stirring string music was distracting!) but the characters endeared with their larrakin attititudes.

Good movie. Didn't know anything about it going into it, and it was pretty good. Interesting social perspective, with some crazy waves thrown in the mix.
