Boy A (2008)

Freed after a lengthy term in a juvenile detention center, convicted child killer Jack Burridge finds work as a deliveryman and begins dating co-worker Michelle. While out on the road one day, Jack notices a distressed child, and, after reuniting the girl with her family, becomes a local celebrity. But when a local newspaper unearths his past, Jack must cope with the anger of citizens who fear for the safety of their children.

Absorbing, fantastically acted and packed with an emotional wallop that you'll be left with for days afterwards. Unmissable

Powerful film making that is as unrelentingly depressing as it compelling. You don't get this level of depth and emotional frankness from very many American features. Quite frankly, there would have been few auteurs who'd have been willing to direct a film like this one. Andrew Garfield gives one of the most moving performances I've seen, and he emotes every bit of adversity his character has been through in his face. A film that is ethically challenging, and questions the morality of the masses, who seek to persecute former-criminals, even after they have repented. This is a film that is not be missed. Absolutely jaw-dropping piece of cinema.

Un chef d'oeuvre bouleversant tant par son esthetique que par un jeu d'acteur juste et emouvant ! Pour son second long metrage, John Crowley a decide de s'attaquer au sujet difficile qu'est la reinsertion, qu'il film avec elegance et justesse en proposant de tres beaux plans. On progresse ainsi dans l'univers de Jack qui tente de reapprendre a vivre apres 14 ans d'incarceration pour une erreur de jeunesse. Mais au moment ou sa vie reprend du sens la realite rattrape le cour des choses transformant le reve en cauchemar...A t'il vraiment le droit a une seconde chance... Le role principale est extremement bien mene par un acteur emouvant et fragile qui joue avec justesse et perfection le role de Jack... La scene finale, a la fois brutale et emouvante ne pouvait pas autre autrement pour conclure ce chef d'oeuvre du cinema britanique... En bref si vous n'avez pas vu le film, foncez...un tres beau moment de cinema...

Emotionally gripping with heartfelt, and heartbreaking, performances from the ENTIRE cast. Garfield captures the quirky and sweet yet somehow odd and troubling personality of Jack perfectly. Mullan's performance as Jack's father figure/mentor is profoundly moving even in the simplest of moments. The art direction is beautiful, the music fits perfectly, and each shot is meticulously crafted. It's always so refreshing to watch non-Hollywood films that actually treat their audiences intelligently. I honestly have nothing bad to say. This is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
