Boy A (2008)

Freed after a lengthy term in a juvenile detention center, convicted child killer Jack Burridge finds work as a deliveryman and begins dating co-worker Michelle. While out on the road one day, Jack notices a distressed child, and, after reuniting the girl with her family, becomes a local celebrity. But when a local newspaper unearths his past, Jack must cope with the anger of citizens who fear for the safety of their children.

Wow what a touching story. I found myself saying "Oh my God" at the end of the movie. I was shocked, I was floored, I was so hoping that the movie was not going to end this way. The whole movie I found myself very proud of 'Jack' and glad to see the life he was living. The whole time apprehensive and scared that he might do something wrong that would land him back in prision. But there was no way I thought the movie would end this way, or maybe I just wanted to be blinded to the fact that it might end this way.

Powerful film making that is as unrelentingly depressing as it compelling. You don't get this level of depth and emotional frankness from very many American features. Quite frankly, there would have been few auteurs who'd have been willing to direct a film like this one. Andrew Garfield gives one of the most moving performances I've seen, and he emotes every bit of adversity his character has been through in his face. A film that is ethically challenging, and questions the morality of the masses, who seek to persecute former-criminals, even after they have repented. This is a film that is not be missed. Absolutely jaw-dropping piece of cinema.

AMAZING movie!!! andrew garfield was excellent!!...from the first scene, he peeked my intrest into what his story was, to the end scene when he makes you feel for his charater so much that all you want to do is reach for him and tell him it will be okay......the whole story is so interesting....where does the line between good and evil lie?.....and when did he cross back over that line and start being good again.....this movie is sad, funny, loving, scary, dark, happy, lonley.....you feel every emotion when you watch it and it's all threw the acting of andrew garfield!!! AMAZING!!!!

Featuring two of the most indelible screen performances of recent years from Andrew Garfield and Peter Mullan, this British film is an effortlessly compelling exploration of one young man's struggle for redemption. Directed by John Crowley with emotional clarity and a unique visual sensibility that is at once naturalistic and stylish, Boy A resists the temptation to simplify the messy complications that come with trying to establish a new life for oneself. A sadly underrated film that deserves a much wider audience.
