Borstal Boy (2001)

Brendan Behan, a sixteen year-old IRA foot soldier, is going on a bombing mission from Ireland to Liverpool during the second world war. His mission is thwarted when he is apprehended, charged and imprisoned in Borstal, a reform institution for young offenders in East Anglia, England.

Why wouldn't i like this film? The story is nice but all i was paying attention to was Danny Dyer. Its the gay version of far and away kind of..........

One small error in the plot on here. Behan does not befriend a gay student but a gay sailor brilliantly played by Danny Dyer. I was surprised that this was based on Behan's own book about the Borstal expeerience. Haven't read it, so I am not sure if they have left things out in the film. Of course Borstal was a reform institution, but it didn't really come across as such a bad place to be.

In a sense I was blown away with this film. I really enjoyed the narrative and sheridan obviously knew what he wanted to get out of the film. The only thing that put me off was the gay kissing scene, I just dont think there was any need for it. Other than that it is an awesome film; well written, directed and acted.
