Bloodshot (2020)

After he and his wife are murdered, marine Ray Garrison is resurrected by a team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman, biotech killing machine—'Bloodshot'. As Ray first trains with fellow super-soldiers, he cannot recall anything from his former life. But when his memories flood back and he remembers the man that killed both him and his wife, he breaks out of the facility to get revenge, only to discover that there's more to the conspiracy than he thought.

This is Vin Diesel trying to be a superhero or is he an antihero? Frankly I don't really care but the film is basically what it sounds like: Vin Diesel venturing into the genre that has dominated Hollywood since the last decade. Bloodshot is simple adaptation from the recognized Valiant comic book that meddles with a mediocre script focused on action with its obvious charge of science fiction. It's not a surprise nor defies expectations but it's far from getting compliments. Evidently his fans and fans of the genres will find it more rewarding, if their tastes goes down that way. For my part I must say that if this was an attempt to build something similar to what Marvel has achieved and what DC is been trying to, they've stayed far away from that goal. There are good things here but they need more talented people to exploit them and that comes from the top not just the actors.

Bloodshot runs out of meta tricks before it is over, and David S.F. Wilson, who borrows his visual vocabulary from Tony Scott and Michael Bay, delivers action sequences with such choppy continuity that viewers may be as confused as Ray. He deserves bonus points, however, for embracing silliness.

Wilson acquits himself adequately enough, emphasizing pacing over character development, but delivering a series of kinetically propelled scenes that clearly benefit from his extensive visual effects experience.

Vin Diesel is back in another movie where he is the ultimate warrior in a tank top that can't be stopped. This time he has the Wolverine healing factor that they don't do anything that interesting with. I know this is based off a comic book I personally never read. All I could say is that I hope the books are better. The main issue I have with this movie isn't the plot that actually has some twist and with some tweaking it could be stupid compelling. It isn't with Vin Diesel who can play his monotone character well. It is the villain of the movie. Bloodshot doesn't have a compelling baddie that can even do anything. The antagonist are so under-powered that they end up serving as punching bags for Vin Diesel. His character is never in any real danger nor are you even remotely thinking he won't win. This year already has shown us better action movies Bloodshot is just a pass honestly.
