I love how this film lets me see--through a child's eyes--the agonizing challenge of conceptualizing abstract constructs and reconciling opposing experiences. The adults are dealing with these things too, but their political intensity is filtered through an innocent (albeit tightly woven) sieve (Anna's 9-yr old view) which lightens the fervor of the world issues (women's and Chilean liberation in the 60-70's) and lessens the ability to attach to them. We are encouraged to suspend our judgment and instead journey with Anna to behold the dynamic experience of paradox.

I am pretty amaze by this movie, it is not just the performance of the young Nina Kervel, and the great work of Julie Gavras. It is not just a good made move it is the substance that the whole movie has. It is not just a film, like tons of films are, about amazing and unprobable circumstances. This is realistic and it could happend and use to happend inside a world that it is still divided, not just by socialism and capitalism, but also by rich and poor, by idologies. I dont want to tell more because it deserve to be watched...I also love the ending...it is just not forced!!!

BRILLIANT! Oh how i love foreign films! It' rare these days that you see TRUE character developement, especially from a 9 year old, but that little girl is amazing! That look, oh that look she has!

From solemn little Kervel, Gavras has drawn one of the great child performances on film.
