Black Death (2010)

As the plague decimates medieval Europe, rumours circulate of a village immune from the plague. There is talk of a necromancer who leads the village and is able to raise the dead. A fearsome knight joined by a cohort of soldiers and a young monk are charged by the church to investigate. Their journey is filled with danger, but it's upon entering the village that their true horror begins.

An extremely suspense filled film centered around the Black Plage of 1348. I really enjoy time peace films, and specially those pre black powder (swords and shit). Take that interesting era, then add to it the confusion of the people of that time, who couldn't understand that the problem was right under their floor boards, sprinkle in some action and a heavy leavel of faith questions, this movie was over long before I quit pondering faith, and you got a very entertaining film.

"I'm ugly and I'm Christian and thats not a good combination here, so piss off." Pretty much sums up the type of character's you will find in this movie. Battle hardened Christian knights, some questioning their beliefs and others refusing to give them up. The story line was well told and the movie was full of many surprises and twists. At first you think it will be a supernatural thriller with witches and demons, but in the end you get a completely realistic kick in the face thats brings you right back to the reality of how paranoid people were in those times. Great movie, worth a watch for anyone who enjoys historical thrillers.

Set in the year 1348 during the plague in England. The story depicts the superstitions and horrors of the Christians and the Pagans.I wasn't really expecting much going into this but I was really impressed by a great story that really leaves you thinking. The cast led by Sean Bean from Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones was excellent. Especially Carice van Houten who I thought did a great job with her character. The movie reminded me a little of Witchfinder General and the original Wicker Man and is well worth checking out.

A pretty solid film, with good acting all around. The movie starts out grim, and ends even darker. A welcome respite from Hollywood's boorish and predictable formulas.
