Bittersweet Memories (2004)

1952, Québec - Alys Robi, vocalist at the top of her popularity and recognized worldwide, was interned in spite of herself, by her father. Medical authorities prescribe her the only cure for a possible cure: the lobotomy. Under the bright lights of the operating room, Alys sees her 28-year life flash before her eyes.

Pascale BuissiÃ¨re est excellente, comme d'habitude. Je ne savais mÃªme pas qu'elle chantait. C'est un film touchant. Alys Roby en a vu de toutes les couleurs...

A pretty average biopic on a wartime celebrity who went from child stardom in Quebec to becoming an international sensation, only to have it all collapse from a long-ignored mental illness (Comparisons to Britney Spears aren't too far off). This film, however, omits a dramatically significant portion of her life - after 1952, Alys Robi returned to the stage, but couldn't find financers because it was believed that she was crazy, even though she'd been lobotomized (And without the frightful side effects, I might add). This would have provided a far more interesting end to the story then what we were given.
