Director Adriana Trigiani, adapting her best-selling novel, delivers the hackneyed material with good cheer, eliciting bright performances from an [excellent] ensemble cast.

Absolutely terrific film - heartwarming and heartfelt. A stellar ensemble cast performance led by Judd and Wilson chemistry. I am not ashamed to say it made me well up with tears at the end.

Sure, the script can be simpler than a diner menu. And at times the nostalgia seems manufactured like the goodies at a Cracker Barrel gift shop, but...Big Stone Gap proves to be...a nice change of pace from the summer popcorn-movie season.

An old-fashioned, feel-good film with uniformly fine performances set against a gorgeous backdrop. No wonder the critics don't like it. And no, it isn't completely predictable....and even when it is, ithe events feel "inevitable and necessary," as good old Aristotle suggests in Poetics. Listen to the audience on this one; not the critics. [Full disclosure. I love Virginia]

I truly enjoy seeing a traditional "feel good" movie. I found the characters and the storyline fun and refreshing. Films like these are few and far between these days.
