Beyond the Gates of Splendor (2002)

"Beyond the Gates" is a feature length documentary film experience about the Waodani Indians and the missionary men and women who have given their lives to reach them. This powerful emotional journey begins with the Waodani describing their way of life before the missionaries visited them in 1956. Narrated by the son of one of the missionaries and each of the wives of the men who died, the audience takes a nostalgic trip back in time to see how the men and women came to meet up with each other in Ecuador. An inspiring story of forgiveness and love.

Excellent documentary that tells more of the story behind the movie The End of the Spear (you should see that one too)

Touching and a little bit plot-twisting. After the first few minutes, I thought I would have to turn it off because it was getting sad. By sad I mean emotional sad. But it got a lot less sad, but still very touching.

This was a documentary of missionaries in the Amazon. It was sad, inspirational and a little silly at the end. I did watch the abridged version.

Companion piece to "End of the Spear," tells the background story through interviews with family members. Very powerful and moving!
