Bethlehem (2013)

Bethlehem tells the story of the unlikely bond between Razi, an Israeli secret service officer, and his Palestinian informant Sanfur, the younger brother of a senior Palestinian militant. Razi recruited Sanfur when he was just 15, and developed a very close, almost fatherly relationship to him. Now 17, Sanfur tries to navigate between Razi's demands and his loyalty to his brother, living a double life and lying to both men.

Adler's bias transforms Bethlehem from what could have been an insightful examination of the regional conflict into a sort of common police procedural.

THREE STAR REVIEW OF "BETHLEHEM" In light of the current tensions transpiring in the Middle East, this film underlines the personal stories which entangle both Israelis and Palestinians. "Bethlehem" is not an easy film to watch, but it is well worth watching! The film maker should be commended for blurring the lines of the conflict, underlining what both sides face. The film does little to present a clear cut point of view, which is the point of making such a complex film.

An intense drama/suspense film, which does not take a stand for or against any of the sides in the Israel-Palestine dispute. Excellent acting by the main characters. You my need some background reading t before watching the film, as the loyalty/animosity situation is very complex: One Israeli Shin Bet secret service, one Palestinian Authority, and two subversive Palestinian groups, all fighting each other.
