Surprisingly watchable and coherent vanity project from the two main personalities of The Room. This was obviously made to capitalize on the press around James Franco's adaptation of Sestero's The Disaster Artist, but is stands on its own as an odd, quirky and enjoyable romp. Make no mistake, this is made largely for fans of The Room (with some obvious winks and tongue in cheek references thrown in for good measure), but mostly stands on its own with a coherent script and at least passable acting/directing. Don't bother seeing part II though. As satisfying and watchable as this is, Part II is equally as disjointed, confusing and unwatchable.

I will be the first to admit, I went in expecting an absolute mess. As it turns out, Greg and Tommy have legitimately improved their acting skills. There were some really intentionally funny moments, and Tommy 100% fits the role of an eccentric mortician character. The plot itself is really interesting, and seeing it come to life through these actors was a genuinely wonderful experience.

i ENJOYED IT FOR WHAT IT WAS. IT WAS BETTER THAN THE ROOM, AND I NEVER GOT BORED. SOMEONE GIVE TOMMY WISEAU 100 MILLION DOLLARS AND LET ME MAKE A MARVEL MOVIE

As for the film itself, director Justin MacGregor certainly plays into the absurdity of the script's strange premise and twisted plotting.

Sestero is a modern day Kubrick. The layers of economic, social and psychological commentary are buried under a thin veil of a "simple" dark comedy. The silence of the main character cleverly portrays the silence Americans felt as the stock market crashed in the great depression. However, typical American entreprenuer (Wiseau) gives the economy (main character) a second chance by reintroducing gold (gold standard). Later in the movie, Wiseau is pushed of a cliff (great recession) and Sestero embarks upon independence once again(pulling out of TPP and rebelling against globalism )Many, many other layers to enjoy. Well done!
