This movie is a terrible SNL sketch that should have been cut before the table read. The premise has plenty of promise, but the execution is woefully tepid and lifeless. At best it's kinda silly, but most of the time it is worn out jokes stretched beyond credulity. I love Kristen Wiig, but, wow this is super basic drivel. It's not weird, it's not quirky, it's just bad.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is extraordinary because – like its fluffy-haired heroines – it makes no apologies for what it is. Mumolo and Wiig have created a story that is proudly deranged, setups that are savagely silly, and centered all that around two delightfully daffy caricatures of middle-aged women that feel fresh yet familiar.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a pair of performances—no, it’s really a singular, joint performance—like what we get from Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.

Much like the dynamite ladies that Mumolo and Wiig wrote and refreshingly bring to life, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is shimmery, vibrant, and as welcoming as a great big hug.
