Arang (2006)

A salt storehouse near the sea may be haunted. A penniless ex-con dies a gristly death in a house he can ill afford. The detectives assigned the case are Min, newly reinstated after a suspension, and Lee, a new transfer from forensics. Min has nightmares: a sexual assault that haunts her. She and Lee work well together, but soon two more deaths occur - each mysteriously poisoned, both friends of the ex-con. A fourth friend, a newly married doctor, is a suspect. But what has all this to do with the salt storehouse, a death ten years ago, and a missing girl? Can Min and Lee get to the bottom of it, or is the supernatural beyond a cop's reach?

With a bit of polish and some rewriting, this could have been a pretty decent detective story. However, they decided to muck it up with all this supernatural idiocy that just apes other Asian horror films and brings absolutely nothing to the story.

Pretty standard Asian ghost story. Arang has a few creepy moments, but otherwise it brings nothing new to the table. Fair movie overall.

Veteran detective So-young and her rookie partner Hyun-gi happen onto an incendiary homicide case. They discover that the present case is somehow related to the mysterious death of a girl ten years previously. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Arang has the same elements of many other horror movies like the long-haired female ghost but the story itself is interesting....its also a well done chiller that works as both a horror and murder mystery... film will keep you guessing and unexpected twist in the end...Worth watching...

I really liked the storyline to this film. There are many horror clichés and the stylings of "Ringu" & "Ju-on" are throughout. It seems to be the mainstay to use the haunting long black hair in Asian Horror film. This also has echoes of "Shutter" to it as well but I really liked this film. The only part that I didn't care for was the very end. It was cheesy and really didn't seem to belong.

Cliché. If you want to see something like this, see Shutter instead. It's way better.
