While the concept yields some moderate claustrophobic tension, it doesn't offer an outlet for the protagonist to provide an emotional hook.

More of a study of a man in isolation and what's going through his mind. The story of his flying to Mars to begin colonization is murky at best. Why have this expensive spaceship and send one person? Why is there a second spaceship following him? What's he going to do once he gets there? Unsatisfying; a good premise to start the movie but it doesn't go anywhere after that.

I really enjoyed this movie! I identified with the thoughts and emotions of the main character and I found the movie thought provoking. I also appreciated the magnificent views of space - I hope they are real and will be a little disappointed if I find out they are not. I was even surprised by the ending, which is unusual for me. I suppose it should be no surprise that I really enjoyed this film though when many of the critics and audience didn't, because I absolutely hate the things many people like, such as superhero movies and watching other people throw balls around - ridiculous things which many people seem to go nuts about.

Strong performance by Mark Strong. Some points were slow though. Honestly there isn't that much there for a movie. It isn't great but it was enjoyable at points. 48/100
