Every year thousands compete in the world's greatest singing competition - that you've never heard of. AMERICAN HARMONY journeys deep into the ultra-obsessive, zany, and heartfelt world of competitive barbershop singing, where passion is equaled only by raw talent, and the reward is not fame or fortune, but simply victory. The film focuses on four quartets vying to win the International Championships of Barbershop Singing, in what turns out to be the closest and most controversial victory in its 70 year history. Max Q is the heavy favorite - a superstar quartet comprised of former Champions. Looking to upset them is OC Times (The Heart-Throbs), Vocal Spectrum (The Rookies) and Reveille, an aging foursome who that has been together for 30 years. In total, fifty quartets duke it out for the coveted gold medal, while facing the pressures of quartet life - from big egos to brain cancer and everything in between.

A wonderful look into the world of barbershop singing and boy is it heartfelt and true to life.

For those who compete in any capacity this is an amazing look at what it takes to win at anything: Talent, hard work and passion. The talent in this documentary is breathtaking considering these singers are "amateurs". I cannot reccomend this doc highly enough. Do yourself a favor and watch it today!

Barbershop quartet singing isn't about handlebar mustaches and candy stripped tuxes with straw hats anymore! This movie takes you into 21st century barbershop. Like everything else in life, you either have to adapt with the times or find yourself irrelevant. American Harmony shows us that Barbershop Quartet singing is DEFINITELY adapting with the times! You GOTTA see this, even if you are remotely into accapella music! AWESOME, funny, enlightening, entertaining! Go see the movie and then go join a local Barbershop Harmony Chapter!! Keep the tradition alive!

Really enjoyed this movie. It gave you a real feel of what barbershop harmony is. If you like music - you should see this movie! What a great way to spend some time with your family or even go by yourself to have some good wholesome entertainment.

I love this sort of documentary. When I read a review comparing it to "King Of Kong" I had to see it. From the beginning, I was swept up in a world completely unfamiliar to me. I found my favorites and rooted for them, enjoyed the background stories on competitors and watching the big competitions. At one point, I even teared a bit - something I didn't expect at all. The story of the international barbershop competition is well-crafted, providing great insight into the personal and creative lives of the competitors without getting bogged down by detail. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the music and appreciated the balance between watching performances and spending time backstage or at home with the characters. I'm glad I took a chance on "American Harmony" and liked it enough to watch it again.
