Despite all the criticism of this movie as the German "American Beauty" I think this film and its unique character perversions offer a more creative reflection on postmodern society's failings than its big budget and predictable U.S. analog.

Sex, embarrassing scatological moments and a tranny. Yup, you're watching a Euro film for sure when those themes can all intertwine in a bizarre little package.

The performance of all the actors is very very good. But there were too many plot-lines left open at the end for my taste. You never find out the cause for Hans-Joergs sex-addiction and where his stories about his father abusing Agnes come from - or how much is true. This is the case with the biography of every character here - some aspects overtly exposed while others are kept totally hidden.
