This movie had so much potential. The Jackass movies are some of the funniest films ever made. There are some good gags in Action Point, but for the most part, it has poor pacing, a poor balance of tone, and a formulaic story that doesn't even work in its own context. 4/10

There are laughs in the slapstick, but you have to wonder: Why not just make another Jackass movie?

You could make the argument that this film is effective enough as a series of stunt gags in 70s costume, and an alcoholic bear certainly made me crack a smile. But the subplot involving DC’s attempts to bring up his 14-year-old daughter is a saccharine afterthought, and feels oddly out of step with the vacuous nature of the rest of the film’s throwaway laughs.

While I applaud the people that enjoy their work, and no doubt Johnny Knoxville has gotten quite rich doing it, I think being on the threshold of turning 50 and still beating the same dead horse is a very sad thing.

Paramount's market research might have imagined that a low-rent Animal House / Caddyshack-type comedy aimed at the Jackass crowd would find its audience, but Action Point just isn't it.
