Paramount's market research might have imagined that a low-rent Animal House / Caddyshack-type comedy aimed at the Jackass crowd would find its audience, but Action Point just isn't it.

For all of the manic anti-authoritarian energy that Knoxville and pals generate in Action Point, it’s not directed at anything, which renders it meaningless and leaves the film to fizzle out like a deflated balloon.

Action Point should be something every script writer has to watch just to see what isn't funny. I'll tell you what isn't funny, a guy getting hit in the crotch a dozen times.

I like watching stupid people hurt themselves and I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR THAT. It's all crashing, falling, and nut shots with a few breaks in between for some father-daughter sentimentality and a handful of gross out gags. It never reaches Jackass levels, but will still prove amusing to anyone who enjoyed watching Johnny Knoxville and friends subject themselves to pain back in the day. There's really not much else to say other than that. It tries to go for that raunchy, 70s'/80s' era slackers vs "the man" comedy vibe which kind of works. The stunts are pretty exciting, but this certainly isn't Jackass 4. Oh, and supposedly the whole thing is based on a real amusement park. Honestly, if you liked the trailer then you should like this. It's not like you don't know what you're getting into.

Not Jackassy enough to appeal to that group and a paper-thin "plot" that won't appeal to anyone else. I literally laughed once at a gag and smiled maybe four other times. Worse, the group of college-aged guys behind me barely laughed at all. Even Knoxville's inherent likability cannot save this film.
