I really wanted to like this film because its cast is generally terrific in everything they do , but only Richard Jenkins and Catherine O'Hara really stand out here. A near-miss and sadly blah comedy that should have been smarter.

This wasn't the movie I thought it was. I thought it was a movie based on a David sedaris essay, but no. The movie is just ok, and the impressive cast deserves better.

Comedy can succeed based on either its relatability or sheer absurdity, and A.C.O.D. favors the former approach, while not entirely forgoing the latter.
