judy garland should have won the oscar this year even if you caught one single scene alone. heartwrenchingly tender and tragic. it's NOT to be missed!

The best of the "A Star Is Born" films.... by far. Garland while not looking her best gives a sensational performance in George Cukor's fine musical. Judy is the whole show, going from crying to breaking out in song. James Mason is in top notch form. This is a classic in every sense of the word.

Although I already was familiar with the story line and how things will end and I had seen other versions of this movie, this one took me by surprise. Two strong actors with great camera shots, beautiful lighting, brilliant sets and musical numbers. Garlands voice is so strong and touching but For me James Mason wins the movie, from the opening act where he is drunk , and he does such a great job portraying a drunk...he doesn’t over or under act at all and it’s sooooo believable that I had to rewind the scene to watch it again,....you forget you are watching a movie, it feels so real. Garlands last scenes were powerful and emotional. Loved it. Hollywood tried to redo this movie over and over again, none compare to this version.

This is a very good dramatic movie Sweeping melodrama about a young singer, discovered by a major male studio star, who becomes enamored of her and helps her rise to the top. She does, they get married, but his career begins to hit the...( read more read more... ) skids as her's continues to rise. She then must carry him through his battle with alcoholism and abusive behavior.
