A Long Way Down (2014)

Four lost souls—a disgraced TV presenter, a foul-mouthed teen, an isolated single mother, and a failed musician—decide to end their lives on the same night, New Year's Eve. When this disillusioned quartet of strangers meet unintentionally at the same suicide hotspot, a London high-rise with the well-earned nickname Topper's Tower, they mutually agree to call off their plans for six weeks, forming an unconventional, dysfunctional family. They become media sensations as the Topper House Four and search together for reasons to keep on living.

I actually liked the writing of the movie unlike some of our other reviewers, I found that the characters stories were really drawn up well. I think it shows that no matter your successes or your stature in life, everyone is capable of sadness. It's dark, and it should be, and it pulled at my heart strings. I love it!

The very nature and winning quality of this film is it's sentimentality. While it's not as 'complete' a film as Hornby's other adaptations, (I felt it could have actually benefited from a longer running time), this is a daring film with four fantastic performances, (especially Brosnan and Poots), and great supporting work from Niell. While a film about suicide is bound to alienate the average filmgoer, those willing to take the jump will find "A Long Way Down" an absolutely memorable and enjoyable experience

An interesting different storyline. Most characters were likeable, but a couple a little annoying. Had a good meaning behind it. Don't think I would watch again, although definitely worth watching once.
